Oral surgery : Wisdom teeth extraction at Burnaby Dental Studio

If you are experiencing tenderness in your jaw or at the back of your mouth, it may be a sign that your wisdom teeth need to be removed. Upon your first visit to Burnaby Dental Studio, we will take dental x-rays to determine the position of your wisdom teeth. While we recommend that the best age to have your wisdom teeth extracted is around late teens to early twenties, many patients in their 30s and beyond still have wisdom teeth, which are often times impacted. The longer you wait to have your wisdom teeth removed, the more complicated the procedure can be and healing time can be greater. In fact, by waiting to have your wisdom teeth removed, the rest of the healthy teeth can become crowded or even decayed as a result.

The procedure to remove wisdom teeth is generally safe and routine. The dentist or oral surgeon will make an incision in the gum tissue to expose the tooth and bone. The tooth may need to be divided into sections to make it easier to remove. Often times patients will opt to have all four wisdom teeth removed at once under general anaesthesia.

At Burnaby Dental Studio, we will ensure that you are comfortable during your wisdom teeth extraction. If you still have some or all of your wisdom teeth, it’s a good idea to come in for an exam and x-rays to find out if they need to be removed.
